Student Support at RVC
We strive to support the varied needs of our students in a manner that is best suited to that student. Our goal is to address any challenges early on and within the classroom setting as much as possible. In addition to support provided by our classroom teachers, we also employ an intervention teacher and special education teacher.
Student Study Teams
When it is found that a student may need additional support or interventions, a Student Study Team (SST) is formed to work towards a solution to better meet the needs of that student.
The SST is comprised of members of the general education school staff and includes meaningful participation of the parent/guardian and the student, if appropriate. The SST reviews and analyzes data and provides a system for accountability. Parents play an integral role in the SST process.
The team will decide whether the needs are best met within the classroom or if they require evaluation for a 504 plan or an Individualized Education Plan (Special Education).
RVC provides all State-required services to children with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans. Details on this can be found on pages 88-100 of the RVC charter petition. These details were approved as satisfactory by both the Marin County Office of Education and the California Department of Education in 2015.
Students are provided with a 504 plan when it is found that they have a disability that significantly impacts a major life function. The plan provides accommodations to ensure that the student is able to access their education, despite their disability.
RVC is committed to an inclusion approach for children with special educational needs. RVC’s full-time, credentialed special education teacher is a part of our teaching team delivering these services in the context of RVC’s overall child-centered approach and in collaboration with the general education teachers to support each child’s particular needs and abilities.
RVC is a member of the El Dorado County Charter SELPA. The SELPA is a consortium responsible for the development of special education policies and procedures, distribution of federal and state special education funds, and providing a range of professional development pertaining to special education. With this support, the Charter SELPA’s partners continue to demonstrate the capacity to provide high-quality special education programs to their students.The proportion of special education students in public charter schools and non-charter public schools throughout California is equivalent.
